by Robert Zhao
Part of AR.T Trail, Singapore’s first public art walking trail powered by Spark AR from Facebook to immerse the public in the narratives of six artworks to humanise the built environment.
The Time Tree is modelled after Singapore’s tallest recorded tree, the ‘Changi Tree’. The tree was rediscovered at an estimated 150 years of age, but was sadly cut down 25 days later. Robert Zhao’s artwork reflects on nature and time. How we mark the passage of time can be observed through nature. Through the size of the artwork’s stump and cross-section, we can imagine what the Changi Tree looked like when it was still standing. The Time Tree is one of the largest artworks in Singapore created using 3D printing technology.
